Spectora acquired HomeGauge in April 2025, and HomeGauge is now openly branded as a Spectora company on its own website. HomeGauge remains available at $89 per month after a 30-day free trial, and continues to serve inspectors who prefer its Windows desktop report writer and Companion mobile app.

Nothing has been announced about discontinuing it. If you see a claim that HomeGauge is being shut down, it is speculation rather than something either company has said.

The strategic signal is harder to ignore. Spectora is positioned as the modern cloud platform, while HomeGauge is positioned around the workflow inspectors have relied on for years. If you love that workflow, there is no reason to leave simply because ownership changed. If you already feel the desktop model is slowing you down, the acquisition is a good reason to evaluate the entire market instead of automatically taking the in-house upgrade path.

One correction worth making, because it appears constantly in roundups: HomeGauge is not a Carson Dunlop product. Carson Dunlop makes Horizon, which is a separate platform retiring on December 15, 2026. The two get confused often enough to matter when you are researching.

What the acquisition means for price

HomeGauge and Spectora are owned by the same company, so they are not two independent options on a shortlist.

The obvious path is Spectora, and it deserves a fair hearing

If you move from HomeGauge to Spectora, you get a cloud platform at $109 per month, with AI Comment Assist included free for every user. Additional inspectors are $99. Their Advanced add-on brings automation, CRM, agent performance tracking, business analytics and AI Message Assist for $4 per published inspection, and bundles a three-page website that otherwise sells for $699 per year.

That is a real product and a reasonable destination. Support and billing stay inside one company, and there is a migration path already built.

The question is whether it is the best use of a switch you are going to pay for either way.

Why Binsr is the more meaningful move

Moving from HomeGauge to Spectora gives you a newer cloud platform. Moving from HomeGauge to Binsr changes the way the inspection itself gets documented.

Five things to test before you commit to either

Comparison articles, this one included, can only tell you what is published. A week of real use tells you what you actually get. Run both platforms on live jobs, not a demo property, and check these five things specifically.

1. Go somewhere with no signal. A crawlspace or a basement, not airplane mode in your kitchen. Take twenty photos, write three findings, come back up and confirm every one of them synced. Offline behaviour is where inspection software quietly fails, and it never shows up on a feature grid.

2. Speak one complete finding and read what comes back. Say the location, the condition and the recommendation out loud, the way you would to a client. If what lands in the report is a transcript you still have to shape into a comment, that is voice to text, which is a different and much older thing than voice to report.

3. Import your real comment library. Not the sample template that ships with the trial. Your library, ten years deep, with all the odd formatting in it. If a vendor cannot do that before you pay, you have learned something important about what migration will feel like later.

4. Time it door to delivery. Minutes from locking the front door to the client having the report in hand. Not writing time, total time. That single number decides more about your week than any feature on either list.

5. Send a finished report to an agent you trust. Ask whether it beats what they get from other inspectors. Believe their answer over your own impression, because they read fifty of these a month and you read your own.

Do all five at the end of a long day on a difficult property. That is the condition the software actually has to work in, and it is not the condition anyone demos in.
